Mozart and Clementi

Mozart played an important role in the early development of piano forte. He might among the first pianists working on this new instrument in the middle of 18th century. Fortepiano spread out at that time. His talent in music was also highly regarded by the audience since his concert tour of Europe began. This child prodigy looks not need too much professional music education, his father is his only teacher.Mozart is a born musician.

However, I would like to show my respect to Cleminti at the same time. Although he is not as famous as Mozart or Beethoven, his achievement of piano pedagogy is very outstanding. He contributed himself to the development of early pianoforte technique. His pedagogical books contain plenty of fundamental elements of pianoforte, such as fingering directions, finger exercises. In a word, he was introducing a method how to play and practice on the pianoforte. For example, Gradus ad Parnassum is a main achievement of him in the history of piano technique.

It might not necessary for Mozart to have a book or teacher to play the fortepiano. However, to most of people, proper guild and instruction are essential. Especially,at the time fortepiano was just recognized by the public. It is pity the time Climenti lived which had Mozart and Beethoven. His ability of being a composer and performer was overwhelmed by his contemporary. I believe his effort on piano pedagogy is also respectable and noteworthy. Meanwhile he never hesitated to give his compliment to someone such as Mozart who had a higher reputation than him.

Clementi is good model for me who wants to be a good piano teacher in the future.
